What is TalaFolk?
TalaFolk is an iOS app that teaches a target language from zero. Every day you get a short news story written especially for beginners at the A1 level of the Common European Framework (CEFR) — simple present-tense sentences, everyday vocabulary, and a topic that actually feels worth talking about. You are never thrown into difficult grammar or slang before you are ready.
The core act is reading out loud. You read each paragraph into the app, hear how it should sound, and get gentle coaching on your pronunciation — the way a language partner would nudge you, not a teacher grading you.
How it works
- A new article every day. Written as genuine news, but simplified to a level you can actually read.
- Read paragraph by paragraph. Tap to focus on a single paragraph, listen to it read aloud in the target language, and record your own attempt.
- Understand in your own language. Every tricky word and sentence has a native-language translation on tap, so you always know what you are reading.
- Meet one grammar idea at a time. Each article surfaces a single "Focus" concept — just enough to notice and learn, without a lecture.
- Get pronunciation coaching. When a word trips you up, TalaFolk flags it with a phonetic hint and a tip — then you retry.
- Discuss what you read. A guided conversation lets you talk about the article with a friendly coach.
